Unzen cable car

This cable car runs between Nita Pass Station and Mt.Myoken Station. The difference of elevation between these stations is 175 m and the distance is 500 m. It takes 3 muinutes.
The operation hours are 8:51 to 17:30. Cable car runs every 4 - 8 min so you won't have to wait long.

Unzen Moutain Disaster Memorial Hall

Opened in July 2002, the Memorial Hall has various sections, such as where you can actually experience volcanic eruption or where you can search and watch documentary films and tourist information about Shimabara Peninsula.
It's a only one museum which passes the truth of disaster and hope of recovery to everyone as a message fto the future.

"Shimabara Joh" Shimabara Castle

There is Christianity Resource Center in Tensyukaku (castle tower) that exhibits information materials of christians and the local fief system at the time. Also, there are a memorial hall of sculptor Seibo Kitamura and a museum of the volcanic eruption activities of Mount Fugen.

Town of Carps (Koi)

You can see about 1500 carps (koi) in various colors in flumes that run in front of peaceful rows of old houses.
Shirachiko Lake

Shirachiko Lake

A volcanic eruption of Mount Unzen in 1792 collapsed Biyama (Mount Biyama), and then the underground water sprung up from beneath. It is said that this action formed the lake overnight. Even today, water is still spouting from a nearby source.
Kanzarashi

Kanzarashi

This sweets originated from soaked rice powder on the day of "Daikan" (a solar term indicating the coldest day of the year). This is a moderately sweet dessert.
